Shirley Ann Holmes, 69, of Sumerduck, quietly went to heaven on December 15, 2009. Shirley was born in Fauquier County, VA on December 2, 1940 to Elizabeth Clatterbuck and Nolan R. Holmes who operated Hub Cap City in Opal VA. She married Alton Holmes. She worked briefly as a meat cutter with A&P in Warrenton before deciding to become a stay-at-home mom to her 5 children. As her children got older, she returned to work as a cashier for Faller’s Store in Bealeton, Rappahannock Station in Remington, Mayhugh’s Store in Midland, and after more than 13 years, she retired from Food Lion/Bloom in Bealeton. Shirley’s love for her family, friends and customers brought her many special memories and lots of laughs. In addition, she enjoyed fishing, bluegrass music and stylish leopard skin patterns. She will be greatly missed by her and Alton’s Children, Wanda Holmes Mercer of Culpeper, J. R. Holmes of Sumerduck, Littie Holmes of Midland, Missy Holmes of Warrenton, and Shannon (Marsha) Holmes of Culpeper. her grandchildren, Jennifer Holmes, Thomas Holmes, Brooke and Joseph Heflin, Savannah and McKenzie Holmes, and great grandson, Koen Dodson. She is also survived by her brother, Herb Holmes of Reidsville, NC, her sisters, Irene Frazier and Melinda Frazier of Midland. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Katelyn Holmes. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 17, 2009 from 6-8pm at Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Broadview Ave, Warrenton, VA, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, December 18, at 11am. Interment will be in Midland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sumerduck Ruritan Club,5335 Sumerduck Road, Sumerduck, VA 22742.
