Ruby LaDover Camp Pride, 74 of Warrenton, VA passed on Feb. 6, 2010 after a period of declining health.

She was born June 21, 1935 in Decatur, GA and reared in Hickory, NC and graduated from Grady Memorial School of Nursing in Atlanta, GA in September 1957.

Mrs. Pride worked in many hospital and office settings in Georgia, Florida, Vermont and Virginia.  She also worked at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.  Mrs. Pride was among one of the first nurses to give the original seven Mercury Flight Astronauts physicals before their flight.  She retired in January 1990 as an Occupational Health Nurse from I. B. M.

Mrs. Pride was awarded the Virginia State Governor’s Award for Volunteerism Excellence while helping establish the Fauquier County Free Clinic.  She was a member of the Warrenton United Methodist Church and involved with several WUMC women’s groups.  She volunteered with the Fauquier Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop.  She was the “Caller's Taw” supporting her husband in his many square dance clubs and American Cancer Society Benefit Dances.

She is survived by her husband, James D. Pride, Sr.; three children, Cynthia Faber (Doug) of Hampton, VA, Martha Flinn (Rodney) of Midlothian, VA and James Pride, Jr. (Christie) of Warrenton; nine grandchildren- James Ritchie, Jonathan Ritchie, Adrianne Flinn, Candace Flinn, Maxwell Pride, Madeline Pride, Michelle Willard, Kari Willard, and Rose Pride; and one great grandchild, James Ritchie, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM Thursday at Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton where a memorial service will be conducted on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM.  Rev. John Chadsey and Rev. Ray Camp, nephew of Mrs. Pride will officiate.  Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
